Sierra
Madre Villa Station
Location:
N. Halstead, near Colorado and Foothill Blvd.
Parking:
Free parking.
The Sierra Madre
Villa station is currently the end of the northeast part
of the Gold Line in
more ways than one.
First, it is located in Big Box
land--a large shopping center, Hastings Village, is about one block north. There
you will find Nordstrom's Rack, Best Buy, Party
City and Bed, Bath & Beyond, etc. As for eats--Chipotle
and El Torito are about the best they have.
 |
Second, the
art budget apparently ran dry when the Gold Line
reached the Sierra Madre Villa station. There
are small mosaics embedded in the sidewalk by the
elevators. That's it, folks! |
The photo of the deer is one-quarter of the entire art work at this
station. Well, they did paint each one of the 4 figures by
the elevators on each of the 4 floors of the parking garage to
help you remember where you parked your car. But we have
seen better parking garage art in shopping malls, for example,
the Glendale Galleria.
 |
Coming or
going through the Sierra Madre Villa station you have
to walk through the garage, then cross to the middle
of the 210 freeway on an elevated walkway. |
Well, at least
the parking is free and bus service is available on
the ground floor.
Plans are in the works for an
extension of the Gold Line further east to Montclair. We hope they replenish the art budget when
the extension is built.
This station would be a
disappointment were it not for the fact that the A Noise
Within theater company will shortly be moving into the
old Stuart Pharmaceutical Company building at the corner
of Foothill and Sierra Madre Villa.
