There is more to do in Pasadena than there is time to do it! And it starts on January 1st of each year. January 1. The Rose Parade marches along Colorado Street. If you want to help decorate the floats in the days leading up to the Parade, you can volunteer at the float building companies in the area. The Rose Bowl Game is in the afternoon. Early January. The Doo Dah Parade also goes along Colorado. Satirical marchers, weird home-made floats, and other strange silliness makes this send-up of the Rose Parade great for laughs.
Second Sunday of January and every month. The Rose Bowl Flea Market is a huge treasury of antiques, collectibles, old clothing and other used items as well as new merchandise and crafts. This monster flea market wraps all the way around the Rose Bowl in the parking lot. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission fee. Pasadena Art Walk Weekend. Tour museums and art galleries around the city during March and again in October on a weekend dedicated to the arts. Friday night, free buses will shuttle you from location to location. April of each year. One City, One Story. One book is selected by the City Library and recommended for reading by everyone in Pasadena. Special events are tied into the selection. Museums of the Arroyo Day. In May five museums located in the Arroyo Seco open their doors to celebrate local history -- for free. The museums include the Pasadena Museum of History, the Gamble House, El Alisal, the Southwest Museum and Heritage Square. The latter two are located in the southern part of the Arroyo in Highland Park. Memorial Day Weekend. Playboy Jazz Fest at the Rose Bowl. Three days of jazz and more jazz. Better yet, admission is free! June through September. Free concerts in the Park in Levitt Park, at Raymond and Walnut. Wednesday through Sunday evenings. Great musicians including Grammy award-winners. Very family friendly. On Wednesday nights you will hear programs especially for children. Festival on the Green. Every other Saturday evening during July through early September the California Philharmonic plays to a huge audience at the Los Angeles Arboretum. Bring your own picnic. Concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Admission fee. Celebration on the Colorado Street Bridge. In mid-July, traffic is banned from the old and beautiful Colorado Street Bridge for one evening in order to hold a family-friendly event. Lots of fun, food, music and a great Pasadena tradition sponsored by Pasadena Heritage. Pasadena Summer Art Festival is held in Centennial Square in front of City Hall. Juried art and craft vendors, international food court, children's fun zone and free music performances onstage. In mid-July. The Fall Art Festival is held at the same location in early November. Summer Film and Blues Series is held in the courtyard at One Colorado. Classic films are projected on the building wall on Friday and Saturday nights in July. In August, the courtyard becomes a great Blues Club. Free admission. Dancing Under the Stars is also held in the courtyard at One Colorado in July and August. Free dance lessons begin at 6 p.m. and dance-able music starts about an hour later. Craftsman Weekend is in mid-October. Tour Craftsman homes and listen to lectures at this event sponsored by Pasadena Heritage. Admission fee. In the Bungalow Heaven neighborhood, there is a home tour in November.
