Tourism is
a major business in Pasadena as shown in this humorous chalk
drawing at the 2009 Chalk Festival. |
Chalk drawings on the
sidewalk at the Paseo Colorado shopping mall were as fascinating as ever
during this annual event. On Saturday rain slowed the start of
the artworks, but the weather cleared and the chalk artists scrambled to
create their works, surrounded by hundreds of onlookers.
Here are some of the art works at the
2009 Festival. (To see photos of the 2010 event, click

It looks
3D --perhaps a sandcastle at the beach-- but this chalk
drawing is flat and one of the most clever ones entered in
the Festival this year. Bravo to the artist! |

The Los
Angeles Arboretum (which is not far from Pasadena) is famous for
peacocks roaming wild. This artist decided to celebrate
the peacock's beauty. |

The
subjects for chalk
art at this year's festival ranged from copies of Japanese anime
to angelic vengeance of Archangel Michael from a famous
European painting. |
