Pasadena's financial center is at Colorado and Lake Avenue where banks, brokerages, more banks, and more brokerages sit side-by-side-by-side in tall modern buildings.  But, about a block and a half south on Lake Avenue retail shopping begins.

You will find everything from designer shoes to fair-trade home accessories to gourmet yogurt to pots and pans to discount clothes for your teenage daughter.   There are several coffee houses and many casual dining restaurants.  And there is a big parking lot behind the stores off Del Mar and behind Macys'.  Parking is free for two hours.

Along Lake Avenue you will find both chain stores and unique shops, along with dozens of restaurants. On a chilly winter day, when this photo was taken, everyone was dining inside.

Two European style shopping arcades filled with boutiques are across from Macys on Lake Avenue.  This one is the Burlington Arcade.  The Colonnade is just a few doors to the north of this.

Macys Shops on Lake occupies a sleek Streamline Moderne building, which formerly housed Bullocks.  The building had been neglected until the revitalization of the area began over decade ago.  There is another Macys on Colorado at Los Robles Ave.

Lake Avenue shops stop at California Street where you can take a break at one of two coffee houses, then shop your way back up the other side of Lake Avenue.
