Historic Highlands is the newest Landmark District in Pasadena.  It's just to the north, uphill, from Bungalow Heaven and its boundaries cross the Pasadena and Altadena city limits.  Like Bungalow Heaven, Historic Highlands has a home tour in May.  The architecture in this neighborhood, however, is more varied than in Bungalow Heaven.
Historic_Bungalow_Pasadena_California.JPG (96778 bytes) This 1910 Craftsman bungalow, originally the home of Col Griffith and his wife, has been featured twice on the Historic Highlands spring home tour.

Historic_Highlands_bungalow_Pasadena_California.JPG (115560 bytes) Built in 1912, this home, across the street from the bungalow shown above, has also been honored by being selected for the Historic Highlands home tour.  It has the low-pitched roof and dark shingles characteristic of this style.  The river rock on the front porch is a common feature in California bungalows.

Spanish_Revival_home_Historic_Highlands_Pasadena_CA.JPG (61928 bytes) Bungalows are not the only architectural style in Historic Highlands as this Spanish Revival home from the 1920s demonstrates.  There seems, however, to be a bit of a French influence in this home's exterior.

Cottage_home_Historic_Highlands_Pasadena_California.JPG (128538 bytes) Whimsey -- it's so appealing!  This charming Historic Highlands cottage-style home has a 1950s parking meter in the garden in front of it -- just for fun.  Parking was a nickel an hour back in those days.

To visit Historic Highlands Landmark District, start at New York and Lake Ave. and go east and south to Washington and Hill.
