Cheap L.A. Travel
The Metro is hands-down the best travel bargain in the greater Los Angeles area. You can buy a one way ticket for $1.50.  Or an all-day pass for $6.  For seniors the one way fare is 55¢ and an all-day pass is only $1.80. On weekends and off-peak hours seniors can travel one-way for a mere 25¢!

Bike and Ride
There are bike racks at most Metro Gold Line Stations. At some stations there are also bike lockers. Bikes may also be taken onto the trains.

Union Station
Location: 801 N. Vignes St., L.A.

No longer do glamorous movie stars and their entourages step out of limousines and sweep through Union Station to trains for East Coast destinations.   That era is gone but even today the beauty of the station remains.
Union Station Los Angeles California.JPG (36972 bytes) Union Station is, in fact, a work of art as well as being the hub for the Metro Lines in greater Los Angeles.  Almost all Metro Lines  pass through Union Station.

Interior of Union Station Los Angeles.JPG (55534 bytes) Everywhere you turn in Union Station there is beautiful craftsmanship and elegant design-- from the coffered ceilings to the tile floors.

At the far end of the waiting room you can dine at Traxx, a very upscale restaurant.  Or you can simply grab a cup of coffee at one of the inexpensive food stands around the station.

Tile fountain Union Station Los Angeles.JPG (63712 bytes) Step outside to the spacious patios which surround Union Station, and you will see old California tiles on fountains and benches. The tiles throughout the building and surrounding areas are all original.

After touring this work of architectural art head for Platform 1 where you can board the Metro Gold Line going to Pasadena--with art and eats along the way. Or go to East L.A. on Platform 2.

Or you can saunter across the street in front of Union Station to the birthplace of Los Angeles: El Pueblo and Olvera Street.

The Los Angeles "Culture Line"
The Gold Line could easily be called the "Culture Line" for greater Los Angeles. There are six fascinating museums within walking distance of its stations--unlike any other Metro line. Additionally, each station has its own unique works of art.

Art and Eats Along the Gold Line can show you the way to these museums, other cultural sites, as well as restaurants and cafes nearby. Enjoy!
