L.A. Travel Bargain
The Metro is the best travel bargain in the greater Los
Angeles area. You can buy a one way ticket for $1.50.
Or an all-day pass for $6. For seniors the one way
fare is 55¢ and an all-day pass is only $1.80. On
weekends and off-peak hours seniors can travel one way for 25¢! |

Bike and
Ride
There are bike racks at all Metro Gold Line Stations.
At some stations there are also bike lockers. Bikes
may also be taken onto the trains. |

Del Mar
Station
Nearest cross
streets: Raymond and Del Mar
Parking:
Paid parking, enter from Raymond or from Arroyo Parkway
| An old Spanish style train station
was updated to become the Del Mar Gold Line station at the southern
edge of Old Town Pasadena.
|
 |
Today, the single story train station is surrounded by a 4
and 5 story apartment complex painted in brilliant Tuscan colors.
 |
The pedestrian entry to the
parking garage carries out the theme of the Del Mar
station: Kenetic Energy by
Ries Niemi. |
Across from the station is
Pasadena's Central Park and on the far side of the park is the highly rated restaurant
also called Central Park.
Going north on Raymond Ave., just
outside Del Mar station, you will see the Castle Green.
 |
The Castle Green
was originally built as an annex to the much larger Green
Hotel, which has been razed. Now it is an apartment
building. |
Escorted tours of the Castle
Green's old public rooms are offered twice a year.
In the next block is the famous Distant Lands
Travel store, one of the best sources for travel information on the
planet. Then comes
Colorado Blvd. in Old Town Pasadena--the street made famous by the
Tournament of Roses parade.

Holly. |
For details about the three
important museums in Pasadena, check the information on the Memorial
Park station. These museums--the Norton Simon, the
Pasadena Museum of California Art and the Pacific Asia Museum--can
all be reached as easily from the Del Mar station as at the
Memorial Park station. Our personal favorite: the Pasadena
Museum of California Art on Holly street just east of Los
Robles.
There
are plenty of "eats" along Colorado Blvd. You will find restaurants,
cafes, bakeries, coffee houses, and yogurt shops representing
cuisines from around the world. Sometimes, it seems, that every
second storefront is a restaurant. Louise's Trattoria on
Colorado is a personal favorite, as is the Cafe Bizou at Raymond
and Holly.
