Wisteria blooms on a graceful arch above a classic Lutyens garden bench in the Mediterranean section of the Arlington Garden.

It is Spring 2010 and Pasadena's Arlington Garden is in bloom.  It is lovely.   Just 5 years old, the garden is beginning to fill in and is now an inviting place to sit in the shade--or the sun--and linger awhile.  During the last year, someone has added garden umbrellas throughout.

Here is what we saw on one warm April morning:

California poppies are flowering everywhere throughout the garden. They self-seed freely and are definitely making themselves at home in Arlington Garden.

The white iris are in full bloom, the blue ones are just beginning.  Both are surrounded by other drought-tolerant Mediterranean plants.

Another winding path through the Garden is lined with white blossoms--again with the ubiquitous poppies.

Even a little lizard is enjoying the sunshine on the recycled concrete retaining wall.

While there are many parks in Pasadena, Arlington Garden is the only public garden in the city.  The official website is here.  To go to the garden drive south on St. John Ave. which becomes Pasadena Ave. and turn right on Arlington.

Use a Bucket List
to plan your retirement.

The Descanso Gardens are noted for camellias and roses, and, in Spring, tulips. Succulent and cactus borders at Huntington Gardens are both water-wise and rich with color. Clematis is just one of several beautiful vines that can thrive in hot climates.
